I bought these seat covers because my newish Corolla has leather seats:
I was really pleased that the "new-to-me" Toyota Corolla I recently bought had leather seats, but that was in the winter.
Its summertime now, and wow - leather seats get really hot!!
I decided I'd had enough and sprung for some of those bead seat covers. Hopefully they will keep my legs and back cooler while I drive.
UPDATE: The seat cover definitely helps in the hot weather with my leather seats. It is comfortable and gives my legs and back some much needed ventilation.
However, its a bit too small for my seat, and I have small seats!

When I traded in my 2005 Toyota Corolla for my 2006 Toyota Corolla, I left my transponder in my old vehicle.
I am ticked off that I did that, because I really can't stand having to stop to pay tolls. Paying tolls is bad enough, right?!?! Speaking of which, I could not believe it... the last time I drove to Stoughton, Massachusetts to clean up my office condo to rent, I was telling a toll collector about how I hadn't stopped to pay a toll in years because of the FastLane / EZ Pass system, when he started pissing and moaning about how the economy is in the toilet because of automation. I swear - the guy was totally smashed up drunk, and he's complaining that transponders are taking away toll collector jobs, and that's causing the economy to fail. How he made the cut when other toll collectors lost their jobs, I have not a clue.
Anyway, I wrote in to Mass DOT to let them know about the missing transponder. Hopefully I can still get the remaining $20 in my account back!
UPDATE: I'm pleased to report that I've obtained a replacement EX-Pass toll transponder. I stopped by a rest area in New Jersey and bought one for $29, $25 of which were included as credits on the device. Since I'll be driving to New Jersey on a regular basis for the foreseeable future, it had to be done.
I was also pleased to learn that I'll actually save a buck or two by buying the transponder in New Jersey. Apparently the tolls are less expensive with a New Jersey transponder for some reason. I'm really just glad that I won't have to stop and waste ten minutes at every toll booth - never mind having to worry about having the cash on hand.
Alas, I was not able to get my $20 back from the Mass DOT. I emailed them about it and apparently they do not give refunds. Big surprise.

I recently upgraded my 2005 Toyota Corolla to a 2006 Toyota Corolla from Carmax, and the new vehicle has a remote control for unlocking and locking that doors. That's a major improvement, but its certainly not the limit of remote control convenience.
One of my co-workers has a security system with a remote start, so I decided to research some of the options out there.
Here's one that caught my attention, the Clifford 50.7x JM KUZTOMZ Dallas Tx:
It features:
- One Mile Range with SST,third-generation liquid-crystal display remote control is the slimmest display remote available
- Remote can confirm commands with tones, vibration, text and icon display
- Active Temp Check - displays internal cabin temp while remote start engaged
- Powerful lithium-ion rechargeable battery with mini-USB charging
- Tone, vibe and display notifications and confirmations
The mini-USB charging is awesome!
My new Corolla also has an alarm with a panic button, though I'm not pleased with that feature as its gone off twice in the past week by accident. Trading in my old car also means that I traded in my after-market stereo that had bluetooth connectivity with my cell phone for hands-free driving. That's unfortunate, but not a big deal. The new car has a three disc changer, which is pretty cool.

I spent the afternoon at CarMax today to buy a used Toyota Corolla and the process went very well.
It started with a phone call where I applied for and was approved for a loan to purchase a car from them, after which I traveled to their showroom for a test drive. I viewed a 2006 Corolla S with 45,000 on it for $14,000, and I test drove the car. It was in great condition, with a little interior wear and tear.
For some reason, I thought the price was $13,500, and when I asked the salesperson about it, he found that another Corolla had its price recently dropped to $13.5k, but not the red one. Surprise! I asked about the one with the price drop, and ended up liking it much better.
So in the end I traded in my 2005 Toyota Corolla with 75,000 miles on it for a 2006 Toyota Corolla with 25,000 miles on it. Sure, I will pay several thousand dollars more to procure the transaction, but overall I'm extremely pleased with how it all went down.
For financing, I chose Capital One. They had the second best rate, second only to Wells Fargo, which had a tiny bit better rate, but which required a lot more paperwork.
The sales process is very low-key. It was different than previous experiences I've had buying cars - definitely more convenient, not-necessarily more affordable. Honestly though, I'm better at working with computers than I am at buying cars, so I think I'll stick to my knitting!
Really the best part of Carmax, in my opinion, is the convenience and efficiency of their operations. Where else can one find so many vehicles to choose from, so many financing options, and easy trades - all available with such efficiency?

Nice license plate! This grumpy license plate is on a very nice Jaguar, though I have to admit, they aren't my favorite car.

Anco 31 Series 3118 Wiper Blade - 18"
I finally got around to buying new windshield wipers for my car last month!
Can you tell I've been busy? I'm only finding time to post about it on Christmas day...
These ones from ANCO via Amazon are less than $10 a piece and work great. Looking back, I would buy longer ones instead, but the 18" are decent enough.

I recently ordered a "certified" birth certificate from Massachusetts in order to file some automobile related paperwork here in Maryland.
It was pricey, but I have to say - the process was quick and simple, and although they merely facilitated the process with the Office of Vital Statistics, my birth certificate was processed very quickly.
Thanks VitalChek!

A couple years ago I replaced the head unit in my Toyota Corolla to add Bluetooth connectivity for my cellphone so that I could drive and talk in a safer manner.
I wrote a blog post on the work I did and included some of the research I did before starting, including some links to the components I purchased on Amazon.
Since then, visitors to my site have found this information useful, and purchased some of the supplies based on my research, and I've learned from their purchases, too.
It turns out a lot of visitors purchased this receiver:
Turns out its a really sweet component! Its only about $100 and has really great reviews.
However, I was not able to find information as to whether or not this supports Bluetooth - even with a connective module! I have to assume it does not, and so I researched a few more products and found this one:
Its about $40 more, and I noted that a reviewer states that even though it has Bluetooth, it cannot stream music over Bluetooth. I personally wouldn't mind that - I've used that feature in a Hyundai Sonata rental car as well as USB connectivity, and found the quality over the USB to be much, much better, besides the fact that USB charged my phone at the same time. Still, the Bluetooth music streaming is cool!!

My new Droid X is absolutely awesome, and one of the features I really love the best is the Google Maps and navigation feature because it includes live traffic updates.
I absolutely abhor traffic.
