Auto Theft
Given that cars are inherently valuable and mobile, auto theft is a perpetual crime - there is even a video game based on the concept called "Grand Theft Auto".
Owners of expensive cars can purchase insurance against theft for their vehicles. Insurance providers sometimes offer discounts if the vehicles are equipped with theft deterrents such as Alarms and or location devices, such as Lojack.
Most automobiles have a Vehicle identification number (VIN) which prevents them from being re-sold "as-is", so most stolen cars are taken to "chop shops" where they are disassembled into parts which are sold off individually.
