Mechanized Driving Speed Monitor

This is a picture of a driving speed measurement system which was recently setup near my apartment.

This one is much bigger than I think they need. The other ones I've seen like this didn't seem quite as large - maybe because they were on larger streets with faster speed limits and more traffic volume. Regardless, I don't want to imagine how expensive these devices are! Whoever makes them is probably cashing in, big-time!

I bet these devices are very effective. If they could make these smaller and more affordable, I think they should be installed instead of the photographic speed traps that Maryland has been using, and getting a substantial backlash for.
