EZPass / FastLANE

This past weekend while driving to New York City, I found out my FastLANE transponder is no longer operational. I called up the FastLANE service center to inquire.

They advised me to send it in for an inspection, and also recommended that I use the velcro strips on the windshield instead of holding the transponder up to the glass. I've been holding the transponder for almost four years - even longer, but I know its at least four years as I'm about to pay off my four year car loan. Regardless, the representative said that it doesn't work as well when it is held, so I'm glad that she said she'd send out some new velcro strips.

In my last car (an Acura Vigor), I tried using store-bought veclro, but they didn't work that well. In hot weather the gum would melt and the transponder would fall off the windshield. Maybe that's why its broken? I kind of doubt it - its very old. I got it right when the became available as I just do not like queues.

Finally, the most interesting part of this story is that to send the transponder through the mail, I learned that I have to wrap it in tin foil. No joke - its to prevent tolls from being paid in transit.
