My First Car Project: 1959 Mercedes Benz 219

Published almost 3 years ago

My first car project was a 1959 Mercedes Benz 219. It was never finished for many reasons, but it was a great introduction to the world of car restoration. It was a "father-and-son" project, and here's what my dad had to say about it at the time:

Yesterday we brought Alby's car home from Princeton, Mass. Mickey Hill drove the truck with the trailer behind it. we got back after dark so we unloaded it this morning. Bill and Amy had stayed over last night so we had Bill to help. Its now located in the center of the garage, up on jack stands with the wheels taken off again. Alby jacked it up and took the wheels off. I hope he doesn't tire of the project, because we do have a lot of work to do. We have to rebuild the engine completely, and take just about everything off to be rechromed and we hope to paint the car too. The body is very solid and the interior is complete but kind of dirty. A good cleaning and it should look like new. I'm excited, he's excited, and I'm sure that if Grampum could see it, he'd be excited too.

Also a picture of my dad and his 220s, which didn't need a restoration:

Virginia Young says:

I am looking at restoring my grandfather's 1957 219. I will have to purchase it from the estate, as it was not left to anyone. Do you mind if I ask what, if anything, you paid for 1959?

Albert says:

I paid $1000 for mine, and then sold it for $200 several years later. What condition is your father's 219 in?
