Ford Mustang Cobra II

Published about 3 years ago

This was my second car project, a 1976 Mustang Cobra II, which my friends promptly nicknamed the "disgustang":

Mustang

Mustang

Ford 302 Engine

I owned two of these cars, and worked on them both for about five years before getting too busy to work on them anymore, and not having the space to store them.

I myself am looking at purchasing a Cobra II project car. Show them a picture of what is looked like originally and that might change their mind a little. Did you paint it brown, or were you coverting it back to original? Was it blue with white stripes? What size motor? The one I'm looking at has a 4cyl out of a 90 'stang, so I want to see about getting something closer to the original motor especially as it has less electronic/computer components.

Albert says:

Hi Joe, The brown one was in primer, the body had just been redone and was in very nice shape, just needed a paint job. I bought the shell to for the engine from the first cobra (I had two). The engine was a 302, and although the Cobra was a 76, turned out the engine was from an 80s 'stang. The 302 is a nice block.

The blue with white stripes is nice, that's what I would have liked to have painted it.

The fastback cobra II is a beautiful car and excellent to work on. Handles well, nice power to weight ratio, and looks mean. :-)

gael says:

well its good cuz we alsoi have 75 gia nd its nasty the only good thing is the 302 boss 5.2 its has its a fun ass engine

Jim Dean says:

I had a white with blue stripes, 1976, had a 302 boss in it, automatic, very nice car, got stupid and sold it. Looking to buy another cobra. Anybody know of any for sale?

Albert says:

Oh man, I got stupid and sold mine too! Actually just didn't have the room to store it - I had two at one time. Good luck in your quest, but go for a standard manual next time!
