Volkswagon Routan
Published over 3 years ago
There is another new minivan that will be hitting the road for 2009, the Volkswagon Routan. From what I have read it is more or less a redo on the Chrysler Town and Country. In looking at the website, I found that they did not offer a bench backseat for the 2nd row, only two captains chairs. They also aren't a stow n' go style, but do fold down, just not into the floor. Also as someone with a child I am not sure what I think of a car seat on a captains chair, even if it have the LATCH. The car over all is cute, definitely cuter than the Chrysler Town and Country but I am not sure that makes it more worth buying.
The Routan has lots of standard features like 6 speed auto transmission, stability control, and a nice stereo system. The vehicle seems to have responded pretty well in government rollover and crash tests.
Now I am not a big fan of minivans, and I am quite mixed on VWs. I prefer a small to medium wagon, but I know minivans are a must for big families. I would wait a few years and for some feed back from some tested and tried users on the road. In the meantime, I would still stick to the dominators in the category- the Toyota Sienna and the Honda Odessey
