The Chevy Volt

The Chevy Volt is GM's answer to the Toyota Prius. It takes alternative fuel one step further - its a plug-in hybrid. If I understand correctly, it also uses a small engine and gas tank to recharge the car's batteries.
The specifications are still not too hot in my humble opinion. It goes 40 miles on a single charge, which can be extended to 360 miles by using its fuel tanks. It has 150 horse power, and a top speed of 100 miles per hour. If 40 miles is what they are publishing, its probably not that far in regular use, and that distance might decrease as time goes on. In my Toyota Corolla, I get almost 40 miles per gallon!
My gut is telling me that it would be more attractive to prospective buyers of the Volt to lower the horsepower and top speed, increase the efficiency, put some solar panels on it, and make it go further. What do you think?
