New York Drivers
Published over 3 years ago
I'm most familiar with Boston drivers. You know the type - aggressive, distracted, yet sometimes polite. I've had the task of driving in the greater New York City area a few times lately and I've started to notice some patterns in the personalities of the drivers there.
Most of what I've experienced and what I'll describe is on actual people in their own cars, as opposed to taxis. New York has plenty of those, and they are all over the map, literally and figuratively.
Like New York pedestrians, they are seemingly unaware of any one else's existence, yet somehow manage to maneuver around. If you try and get their attention by being nice and letting them merge, they take the opportunity without acknowledging your existence. Inch forward to let them know you're not letting them merge, and they'll inch right back at you. When I kept inching forward, they'd eventually pace back, but only because they decided to, not because of anything I did. I don't even really exist, right?
