Lead Wheel Weights Begone

Published over 3 years ago

Cars and trucks use lead wheel weights to balance tires. Good, because a well-balanced tired wears out evenly and reduces vibration at high speeds, bad because they are currently made of lead, which is poisonous to humans and especially detrimental to children. (Note: tire rotation also helps tires wear evenly.)

What's being done about it? They are getting phased out and replaced with other types of weights. When? Over time through 2011. Source? The EPA.

What other types of weights use lead? Fishing lures are another type of weight which still use lead, which is too bad because so many children like to fish.
