Jiffy Lube Oil Change, Part III

Published over 3 years ago

Jiffy Lube

Today I got the oil changed on the 2005 Toyota Corolla, and while they got the prices correct this time, they again disassembled my glove compartment to try and sell me a new air filter.

Last time I had my oil changed at Jiffy Lube, they offered me a new air filter for $8, but then tried to charge me $34 for it. Pricing problems aside, I never asked them to check my air filter either time.

What really got me going today was that they didn't seem to be able to put my glove compartment back together, and I have my bluetooth stereo cellphone link setup in there - and I still have to check that they didn't mess anything up. Since I was annoyed, I thought about it, and really didn't think it was appropriate at all for them to open up my glove compartment.

I requested the Jiffy Lube rep make a note in their computer system to never check my air filter again. Jiffy Lube management, if you are reading this, you may want to consider asking your customers' permission before disassembling any part of their car.

I should also note that unlike the RAV4 maintenance required light, the Toyota Corolla odometer needs to not be in trip mode to reset the light. With the odometer in its full reading mode and the car off, I held down the odometer button, then turned the key to on. The odometer then displayed 5 dashes "-----", and then flashed 5 times, each time removing a dash. After that, I started the car and the maintenance required light was no longer illuminated.

Next oil change: 48,000 miles.
