EZ Pass / Fast Lane Toll Payment Transponder

The Mass Pike sent me a violation notice last week for a $7.80 toll. The notice included a schnazzy photograph of my classy Toyota Corolla as evidence, but I was still skeptical that I was responsible for such a high toll amount. Besides, I have a toll payment transponder which should have paid for my use of the highway.

I called the violation hotline and though I was on hold for almost 15 minutes, the representative I spoke with was very helpful. She explained that the unpaid toll was probably for a commercial vehicle which triggered the photo, but snapped a shot of my car instead. She instructed me to fill out the response letter with that explanation and fax it in. I did so and it only took a few minutes.

Wireless toll transponders are great, but they aren't perfect. Here is Massachusetts, the Mass Pike is a great highway, but its management is full of controversy, so I usually try to stay off of it.
